PREPARATION GUIDE
Preparation Guide for your childs cake smash
Turning one is a huge accomplishment both for your baby and for you. Congratulations on making it through the first 12 months.
And what better way to celebrate than to smash up a cake, eat it and make a big mess you don't have to clean up?!
What to expect during your Session
Your session will run for roughly 45 minutes - 1 hour. We start the session by taking a few photos of your little one in a cute little outfit (either from my collection or one of your own) before introducing that delicious cake.
Don’t assume they will dive right in!
Most parents assume their little one will dive right in and go crazy when a cake is put in front of them.
However, this doesn’t always happen and that’s okay. We will let your baby set the pace, as some babies are more than happy to make a huge mess, while others may need a little bit of encouragement and sometimes even help to get into their cake. Be ready to get your hands dirty and help your little one get past all the frosting to the cake underneath! It’s also a good idea to bring along a favourite toy and some snacks that could be placed inside the cake for them to go in after!
Be prepared to get a little messy
It is always a good idea to be prepared to get messy. Most parents will think they wont be getting messy, but sometimes they may need to pick baby up whilst they are covered in cake.
Some babies can feel overwhelmed by a few adults cheering them on to eat a nice delicious cake or perhaps they haven't had one before. Its great to give them a muffin or something similar to cake to help introduce the to the texture and also the icing.
Watch out for allergies
Offering your child a cake during their session that has ingredients they have never had before isn’t a great idea. This one may seem obvious, but it has to be mentioned. So please make sure that you little one has had cake and icing before the Cake Smash.
What To Bring
- 2 Towels and a face washer
- Change of clothes for yourself ( just incase you get cake on your clothes).
- The outfit your child will be wearing for the cake smash if you haven’t chosen one of mine.
- Snacks for your little one to eat incase they don't like the cake.
- Body wash if they have sensitive skin (for bathing them after the cake smash).
- A sippy cup/drink for your baby to wash down the cake.
Bath Photos
At the end of the cake smash we will be taking photos of your little one in the bath. The bath will have warm water. Once I have taken my photos you can wash your little one off, and they will almost always need another bath when they get home as they will still be a bit greasy from the cake icing.
